Car Not Drivable After an Accident? Handle It All From Home

It can all happen without you leaving the house. Send photos of the damage and a written estimate comes back within 1 hour. We arrange the tow to our Savage shop, handle the claim with your insurance company, coordinate a rental, and text you photo updates. The only trip you make is picking up the finished car.

First, make sure it really shouldn’t be driven

Some cars that look terrible drive fine, and some that look mild are hazards. Treat the car as undrivable if any airbag deployed, if fluid is trailing underneath, if a wheel sits at an odd angle or rubs when it rolls, if the hood will not latch, or if a headlight is smashed and darkness is coming. Steering that pulls hard or feels loose belongs on a flatbed too.

When you are unsure, choose the tow. Limping a wounded car even a few miles can turn a body repair into a mechanical one — an overheated engine from a nicked radiator, a chewed-up tire from a bent fender edge. The tow bill is minor next to that, and on most claims it is covered anyway.

Before the car leaves your possession, empty it of what your week requires: the insurance card, the garage remote, medications, work equipment, the stroller in the trunk. Cars in repair are secure but not convenient, and every forgotten item becomes an errand. This is also the moment to note the fuel level and mileage — a ten-second habit that closes off a whole category of later questions.

The whole repair, run from your phone

Once the car is off the road, nothing that follows requires you to stand in a lobby. Here is the sequence our out-of-commission customers actually follow, start to finish.

  • Photograph the car where it sits — every angle, every damaged area, plus a wide shot for context
  • Send the photos to us and get a written estimate back within 1 hour, free
  • Approve the tow; we coordinate pickup from your driveway, the roadside, or a tow yard
  • Give us your claim number and we handle the back-and-forth with your insurance company
  • Need wheels? We coordinate the rental so it lines up with the repair, not against it
  • Follow the repair through text updates with photos as the work progresses
  • Make your one trip: pick up the finished car and the warranty paperwork

Photos first: what to shoot before the car moves

Good photos do two jobs at once — they let us write a real estimate, and they preserve the condition of the car before a tow strap or a lot transfer adds a scratch someone later argues about. Shoot in decent light if you can, and do not clean anything first.

Capture the whole car from each corner, then each damaged area from a few steps back, then close-ups of every crack, gap, and crease. Include the ground under the car if anything leaked, the interior if an airbag fired, and the odometer. Thirty seconds of extra photos beats a week of claim questions.

If the light is bad or the location is unsafe, take what you can and move on — a shaky night photo of the whole scene is worth more than a perfect one that required standing in traffic. We re-photograph everything under shop lighting the moment the car arrives anyway; your pictures establish the starting condition, ours establish the detail.

Getting it towed without riding along

You do not need to be present for the pickup. If the car is in your driveway, leave the key where we agree and we handle the rest. If it went to a tow yard after the crash, you authorize the release in writing, we settle the logistics with the yard, and the car comes straight to 8080 W 125th St in Savage — one move, no second tow later.

Because we are open Monday through Saturday from 9 AM to 11 PM, evening tow-ins land while people are still here to receive the car, photograph its arrival condition, and pull it inside. Very few shops can say the same.

Staying mobile while the car is down

Rental coverage varies by policy, and when another driver caused the crash, their insurance company generally owes you a replacement vehicle while yours is unusable. We coordinate the rental pickup and return so the paperwork matches the repair dates — no rental days wasted before parts arrive, no scramble at the end.

Tell us how you actually live — kids and car seats, a work truck you cannot do without, a commute to Minneapolis — and we will flag that to the rental desk. The goal is that the crash disrupts your week, not your month.

While the repair runs, the updates come to you. Teardown findings arrive as photos with plain explanations, supplements go to your insurance company without you playing messenger, and if a part is holding things up, you hear about it from us before you have to ask. Silence is the thing customers hate most about this industry; we simply do not practice it.

The one trip you actually make

Pickup is the single in-person step, and it is worth doing in daylight. Walk the car with us, sight down the repaired panels, check the gaps, and take the written lifetime paint warranty with you. If anything reads wrong to your eye, that is the moment to say so — you will not be rushed out the door.

Everything before that moment — estimate, tow, teardown, claim, supplement, rental — happened while you were on your couch. That is not a premium service tier; it is just how we run repairs for anyone whose car cannot come to us under its own power.

Good to know

Common questions

Straight answers before you commit to anything — and a human on the phone when you want one.

How accurate can an estimate from photos really be?

Accurate enough to start, honest enough to say so. Photos capture the visible damage and let us write a real number within 1 hour, but a hit hard enough to disable a car usually hides damage behind panels. The final scope gets confirmed at teardown, documented with photos, and submitted to your insurance company as a supplement when needed.

Should the car go to my house first, or straight to the shop?

Straight to the shop, in almost every case. A stop at home adds a second tow bill, delays the teardown that unlocks the claim, and parks a leaking or airbag-deployed car in your driveway. The exception is when you have not chosen a shop yet — then home beats a tow yard, because your driveway does not bill daily storage.

What if my car turns out to be a total loss?

Then the teardown documentation works in your favor. A thoroughly photographed vehicle supports a fair valuation conversation with your insurance company instead of a guess from parking-lot pictures. We will tell you plainly when repair costs are climbing toward the car’s value — before the work happens, not after.

Photo estimates cover what the camera can see — hidden damage is documented and cleared with you (and your insurance) first. Your info goes to our estimator, never sold or shared.
