Zone Body construction decides what gets replaced
Nissan markets its unibody design as Zone Body construction: soft crush zones front and rear that are meant to deform, wrapped around a rigid passenger cell that is meant not to. The strength that keeps the cabin intact comes from ultra-high-strength grades in the pillars, roof rails and rocker sections, and those grades cannot be heated or straightened without permanently losing the property they were chosen for. Nissan says as much in its own repair information, and the reason is simple: a heated ultra-high-strength part looks identical afterward and is not.
What that means in practice is that a Rogue or Altima front hit is triaged by measurement, not by appearance. The vehicle goes on the laser system, the datum points are compared against Nissan’s dimensions, and anything outside tolerance is either pulled where the procedure allows a pull or replaced at a factory joint where it does not. Both sets of readings are documented and go to your insurance company with the supplement.
ProPILOT and Around View cameras after a body repair
Nissan puts a forward camera at the top of the windshield and a millimeter-wave radar at the front of the vehicle behind the grille emblem area for ProPILOT Assist and automatic emergency braking. On top of that, the Around View Monitor uses four separate cameras — one in the front grille, one under each mirror, one at the tailgate or trunk lid. A rear-end repair moves the tailgate camera. A mirror replacement moves a side camera.
Because those cameras stitch a single overhead image, a small mounting shift shows up as a bird’s-eye view that no longer lines up. Every Nissan is scanned before teardown and after reassembly, any camera or radar disturbed by the repair has the calibration Nissan publishes for it completed, and the overhead view is checked on the screen before the car is handed back. A stitched image whose lines meet is the quickest visual proof that every camera went back where it belonged.

Leaf and Ariya: high voltage comes first
The Leaf and Ariya carry their battery packs in the floor between the axles, which makes the pack part of the vehicle’s structure and puts it directly in line with rocker panel and floor pan damage. Before any welding, cutting or structural pulling, the high-voltage system is shut down and given time to discharge, and the pack case is inspected for deformation, coolant weeping or damaged mounting points.
Lifting matters too. An electric Nissan has defined lift points, and putting a hoist arm under a battery tray causes exactly the kind of damage nobody wants to explain. If a pack shows impact damage we say so plainly rather than working around it, because a compromised case is not something a body shop should be signing off on. Everything else — panels, refinish, sensors — follows the same process as any other Nissan.
