Apple Valley to Prime Auto Body is one road: County Road 42 west, about 18 to 25 minutes from the Cedar Avenue corridor to our shop in Savage. We repair door dings, cart dents, and scratches, keeping the factory paint on the panel whenever the metal and the clearcoat allow it, and refinishing properly when they do not.

The Cedar Avenue corridor is a dent factory

Between the retail along Cedar, the Zoo lot on a school-holiday morning, and the ring road around Cobblestone Lake, Apple Valley drivers spend a lot of hours parked among strangers. Wind across the open lots does the rest: in January a door gets pulled out of somebody’s hand and lands on the car beside it, and the owner of that car finds out on the next grocery run. The Cobblestone Lake rows are the ones we hear about most, closely followed by the Zoo overflow lot.

Winter is genuinely the worst of it. Cold makes clearcoat more brittle, gloves make door handles clumsier, and snow piles narrow every parking row by a foot on each side. A dent that would have been a clean push-back in July often cracks the paint in February, which changes both the repair and the price. It is worth having looked at early rather than in spring, because salt works its way into a cracked clearcoat quietly over the months in between.

What can be saved without a respray

The best outcome for any dent is the one where nothing gets painted at all. When the clearcoat is unbroken and the metal has not stretched, the dent can be worked back from behind the panel until the reflection runs straight, and the factory finish stays exactly as the plant applied it. No color to match, no blend to feather out, no cure time to wait through. On a newer or leased car, that outcome is worth a phone call before you assume the worst.

That is not always available. Once the paint has cracked, or a cart corner has gouged through to primer, or the metal has folded into a crease, the panel needs filling, blocking, and refinishing to come back properly. We tell you which case yours is and price both approaches where both are genuinely possible, rather than defaulting to the more expensive one. Both numbers go on the same page, so nothing is hidden inside a subtotal.

Hail dimples are a separate conversation

If your car came out of a summer storm covered in small round dimples across the hood and roof, that is hail damage rather than dent repair, and it is handled differently. Hail is a comprehensive claim in Minnesota, usually with a lower deductible, and the assessment is about counting and mapping dimples across the panels rather than examining any single one closely. The two are priced and documented differently, so it helps to know which one you are actually looking at.

The overlap is real, though. A car can carry hail on the roof and a door ding on the side, and both get looked at in the same visit. If storm damage is the larger issue, start on our hail damage page and send photos the same week rather than waiting, because metro shops fill up quickly after a significant hail event.

Common questions

Straight answers before you commit to anything — and a human on the phone when you want one.

How long is the drive from Apple Valley?

About eleven miles, roughly twenty minutes, and it is a single road — County Road 42 west, also signed as 150th Street West, straight through Burnsville into Savage. We are at 8080 W 125th St, just off Highway 13.

A car door blew into mine in a parking lot. Whose insurance covers it?

If the other driver is identified and accepts responsibility, their liability coverage does. If they have gone, it falls to your own collision or comprehensive with a deductible. In many cases the repair costs less than that deductible, which is why we price it before anyone makes a call.

Can you fix a dent in an aluminum panel?

Yes, though aluminum behaves differently. It is less elastic than steel and does not spring back the same way, so more aluminum panels end up needing filler and a refinish. We identify the material before quoting, so the estimate reflects what the panel will actually take.
