QuietTuning is built into the body, and repairs can undo it
Buick sells quiet. The engineering behind that — the program the company calls QuietTuning — puts acoustic laminated glass in the windshield and front doors, expanding foam baffles inside body cavities, mastic pads on large panels and heavy sound-deadening across the floor. Every one of those items sits exactly where collision repair happens, and every one of them is easy to leave out during reassembly. None of it shows in a photograph of a finished car, which is exactly why it gets skipped so often.
A quarter panel replaced without the cavity foam going back in, or a door skinned without the deadening pads, produces a car that is structurally correct and audibly wrong. Owners notice within a week of getting the vehicle back. So on a Buick the sound package is inventoried at teardown, photographed, and reinstalled per the published procedure — because a quiet car that comes back loud is a failed repair whatever the panel gaps look like.
Press-hardened steel and the structural side of a Buick
Underneath the trim, Buick shares GM’s current unibody engineering, which means press-hardened steel through the door ring, B-pillar and rocker reinforcements and progressively softer grades in the crush zones ahead and behind. Press-hardened parts are formed and quenched at the factory and cannot be heated or straightened afterward without permanently giving up the strength that put them there. Buick shares that engineering with the rest of the GM range, so the published procedure for the equivalent body is the one that applies.
The Enclave in particular is a long, heavy vehicle where a rear impact can move rear rail dimensions without doing much visible damage. So structural triage is done by measurement: the vehicle goes on the laser system, readings are compared to GM’s dimensions, and pulls are made only where the published procedure permits, with a second set of readings taken afterward and filed with the estimate.

White Frost and the case for testing before spraying
Buick’s signature whites are three-stage finishes: a base coat, a translucent pearl layer, then clear. The pearl layer is where the color actually happens, and the number of passes over it decides whether the panel finishes warm or cold against the rest of the car. A paint code identifies the materials; it does not tell anybody how many passes your particular vehicle received on the assembly line eight years ago.
So the process is the same one we use on every layered finish. A spray-out card is built with the gun, distance and pass count planned for the panel, compared to your car under booth light and again outdoors, adjusted, and only then is the vehicle sprayed in the downdraft booth. Color goes out into the adjacent panels as a blend, and the refinish carries our lifetime paint warranty. Pearl whites also age differently on a roof than on a door, and the test card is what catches that.
